SUPPLY-CHAIN INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION ORGANIZATION (SIDO)
SIDO develops its members academically and professionally by providing them opportunities and resources relating to the supply chain and logistics fields.
Since 1985, SIDO has helped students interested in the field, particularly those majoring/minoring/taking graduate studies in Supply Chain and Logistics Technology at the University of Houston.
Supply chain and logistics technology involves efficiently managing the flow of materials and services, through the transformation into finished products, and to ultimate delivery at the point of consumption. It is an integral part of most businesses and is essential to company success and customer satisfaction.
We are training tomorrow’s workforce for critical twenty-first century jobs, as intelligent infrastructure and SMART cities become the new normal for economic prosperity, national security, and a sustainable planet.
Beginning fall 2022 the Supply Chain & Logistics Technology B.S. Degree Plan reflects a new CIP Code. The new code 52.1301 Management Science is a STEM related field as determined by the U.S. Department of Education’s Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) and approved spring 2022 by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) STEM Designated Degree Program List is a complete list of fields of study that DHS considers to be science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields of study for purposes of the 24-month STEM optional practical training extension described at 8 CFR 214.2(f).
Under 8 CFR 214.2(f)(10)(ii)(C)(2), a STEM field of study is one “included in the Department of Education’s Classification of Instructional Programs taxonomy within the two-digit series containing engineering, biological sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences, or a related field.
"STEM/STEM related classification will expand opportunities for our students to apply for scholarship funding, will allow our international students an opportunity upon graduation to apply for a STEM OPT extension for a 24-month period of temporary training that directly relates to their program of study in an approved STEM field, and will provide a competitive advantage for our students when applying for internships and jobs," said Margaret Kidd, Program Director, Supply Chain & Logistics Technology.
