Monika Alters is an Instructional Associate Professor of Digital Media at the University of Houston, College of Technology. Originally from Poland, Professor Monika moved to United States in 1996 as an exchange student in high school. Her American host-family exposed her to graphic design and printing and Monika decided to pursue an Associates degree in Advertising/Graphic Design from Kilgore Community College. Professor Alters later moved to Houston on a scholarship to pursue her Bachelors degree in Technology Leadership Supervision and, subsequently, Masters in Training and Development. She later obtained Masters of Divinity and was ordained as a Christian minister.
Professor Monika Alters joined the University of Houston as a full-time faculty in 2005. Along with Dr. Jerry Waite, Monika created the Digital Media major and wrote many of the program course curricula. Currently, she teaches courses in content strategy, epublishing, storefront, and senior project. She is the former President of the Graphic Communications Education Association - GCEA (former International Graphics Education Association) and the current faculty sponsor of a student chapter of GCEA (GCEAUH). In 2016. Monika was honored as a Woman of Distinction at the Graph Expo & Print 2016 Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Outside of work, Monika enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her husband, kids, and two dogs.
