The accelerated B.S. in Human Resource Development and the M.S. in Human Resource Development program is open to qualified undergraduate Technology Division students wishing to continue their education at the graduate level immediately upon completion of the B.S. degree. Students may take up to six graduate-level credits in Human Resource Development that will apply to both the bachelor's and master's degrees. This will reduce the total number of undergraduate/graduate credit hours required to complete both degrees.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
A student wishing to enroll in the accelerated program should submit a petition to the Human Development and Consumer Sciences Department during their junior year.
Applications are due:
- December 1 for taking courses in the Spring term
- June 1 for taking courses in the Fall term.
Minimum eligibility requirements:
- Junior standing and completion of 30 semester hours of Technology Division coursework
- Minimum of 9 hours (of the 30 Technology Division hours) should be HRD courses to include:
- HRD 3340: Introduction to T/D,
- HRD 3346: Needs Assessment, and
- HRD 3351: Instructional Design
or other courses as approved by the Program Coordinator
- Minimum 3.0 GPA over all course work
- Minimum 3.2 GPA over all Technology Division course work
Since the student is still an undergraduate with upper-division coursework remaining at the time the application is submitted, acceptance into the Accelerated Program does not constitute automatic admission to the graduate program.
Admission to the Graduate Program
Students enrolled in the accelerated program must complete the graduate application process before formal admission to graduate school. The admission committee reviews the entire application when making an admission decision.
Additional information about accepted applicants:
- Earned a Bachelor's degree equivalent
- Achieved a 3.00 GPA on the last 60 hours of the B.S. degree
- Achieved a 3.00 GPA on all graduate-level courses taken since entering the Accelerated Program
- Test scores must be official and no more than five years old. The average score of an accepted applicant for the GRE is 300 for Quantitative and Verbal sections combined and 3.5 on the Analytical section; 550 for the GMAT; 400 on the MAT. There are no minimum test scores.

Graduate Courses taken as an Undergraduate
The Technology Division at the Cullen College of Engineering granting the B.S. degree shall determine which graduate courses can be substituted to satisfy the student's undergraduate degree requirements. This determination will be made in accordance with the student's interest, the recommended graduate courses for the accelerated program as chosen by the HRD faculty, and the student's preparation for the course material. It is anticipated that there will be consultation with the graduate degree and undergraduate degree departments.
