Society for Biological Engineering (SBE)


- The Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), an AIChE Technological Community, is a global organization with a focus on providing students with opportunities to further their understandings and visions in STEM, as well as connect like-minded individuals who share similar passions for Biology in the field of Engineering.
- Currently there are 133 members (2021) and is open to many more of any STEM major.
- SBE focus is on improving student success by providing a variety of resources to the students in the Biotechnology field and adjacent degrees.
- Some of the activities include review sessions for challenging courses, relaxing socials to de stress amidst the semester, and career opportunities via career fairs with the leading companies in the area.
- SBE also provides a community for STEM students to relate to and gain connections with to aid in navigating the struggles that are faced.
- SBE members attends the annual Bio Houston Chili Cook Off, which provides our members with a great opportunity to network with companies they are interested in working for in a casual environment.
- In addition, SBE hosts seminars with companies such as Lonza Group AG, Eurofins Scientific, and Cemvita Factory Inc., so the student members can gain the information the companies are looking for in applicants.
- Other activities include hosting professional workshops that provide insight on aspects such as resume and LinkedIn building, organize seminars with experts in the Biotechnology field including prosthesis and immunology, student-led discussions of hot topics within the STEM community including artificial intelligence and various volunteer events ranging from aiding the Houston Food Bank and helping the local animal shelters.
- Student members get a good understanding about where they want to take their professional careers.
- SEB Office is located at T1 Annex Technology Building Rm. 120C.
