Career for Biotechnology

Agricultural Biotechnology includes genetic engineering to make plants and animals more productive or resistant to diseases, production of vaccines and other biotherapeutics using plants, and engineering microbes for protecting plants and animals from disease.

Medical Biotechnology includes research on and diagnosis of human diseases, and development and manufacture of biotherapeutics such as recombinant drugs, vaccines and antibodies.

Industrial Biotechnology includes development of microbial strains, processes, and enzymes for use in the food, energy, textile, plastics, oil and other industries.

Environmental Biotechnology includes development of products for bioremediation of environmental pollutants, Green House Gas emissions and biofuels as alternative energy sources.

Forensics include uses of biotechnology in solving crimes and bioterrorism.  Food forensics involve tracing of the origins of bacterial food poisoning and GMO’s.
