Program Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes

(Updated and Approved on May 15th, 2020 by the CIS Faculty in consultation with the CIS Advisory Board)

Program graduates will understand and apply ethical considerations while working to solve problems for an organization.
Program graduates will, in line with their team role, contribute high quality work to team-based projects for an organization.
Program graduates will communicate effectively with persons in various roles within an organization.
Program graduates will apply accurate knowledge of the functions and applications of technology to contribute productively and effectively to the processes of an organization.
Program graduates will help solve problems for an organization by identifying, analyzing, developing, testing, implementing, and deploying information system-based solutions.
Program graduates will maintain knowledge of emerging and changing information system methodologies and technologies to address critical needs of an organization.
Program graduates will recognize the importance and value of information to an organization and will work to secure information from theft and loss. In addition, program graduates will recognize the importance and value of information privacy to an organization and to individuals and will work to protect information from unauthorized access and use.

Student Outcome 1 (formerly B): Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
Student Outcome 2 (formerly C): Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
Student Outcome 3 (formerly F): Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
Student Outcome 4 (formerly E): Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
Student Outcome 5 (formerly D): Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
Student Outcome 6 (formerly J): Support the delivery, use, and management of information systems within an information systems environment.
