The Hydrographic Society of America (THSOA) has awarded the THSOA National Scholarship to David Martinez, a mechanical engineering technology senior. Martinez was awarded $4,000 for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The National THSOA scholarships are available to full-time student seeking a 2-year, 4-year, or graduate degree in hydrographic surveying, ocean mapping, geomatics, ocean sciences, geographic information system, ocean engineering, electrical engineering, or other related field. The scholarship application is now available for the 2016 - 2017 school year. The scholarship deadline is November 15, 2016 and the scholarship criteria and application can be downloaded at https://www.thsoa.org.
Students in the Digital Media Program at the University of Houston's College of Technology have been named winners of 2016 Graphic Excellence Awards, presented by Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast. The entries include Chess Set Drawn in Adobe Illustrator Using Gradient Wash created by Travis Mohle and Visual Communications Journal, a team project led by Meglyn Rickert, who won the Awards of Excellence. The Bakery Variable Data Printing Coupons and Graphic Communications Week Poster class projects received Best of Category for Print and Design respectively. Lorena Mitchell won recognition as the designer for Bakery Variable Data Printing Coupons. Digital Media students Adam Edwards and Tri Huynh received an Award of Merit for Calling all Cougars and Scotty Floyd received one for the Portrait of Kiko Muzuhara Drawn in Illustrator Using Gradient Mesh. These awards will be presented at the 2016 Graphic Excellence Awards Gala on April 13, at the Doubletree Hotel, Greenway Plaza.
