As one of the initial students to choose the University of Houston digital media program's newly created emphasis in packaging, Aceneth Diaz, a digital media major, seized the opportunity to gain experience in the first ever packing internship offered by a Houston company. After responding to Professor Jean Pierce's suggestion to share her portfolio at the Gulf Coast Chapter Institute of Packaging Professionals meeting in June, within days, the sales and marketing director of Houston Foam Plastics, Wayne Lynn, was ready to bring Aceneth on board.
Aceneth's internship at Houston Foam Plastics began with her working on a full range of marketing materials from digital brochures to videos and brand updates. Reflecting on her experience, Aceneth said, "I immediately started working closely with our marketing and sales director to brainstorm concepts and ideas for the new website and to produce a unique video brochure. I learned about different types of foam materials and their applications and appreciate all of the opportunities for observation and contributing to Houston Foam Plastics."
Expressing pride of this accomplishment, Professor Pierce said, "This is the perfect opportunity for our students to see the full picture and understand the end-to-end processes for a packaging firm. Our program focusses on developing students who can take management positions after graduation. This exposure to all aspects of the business provides real world experience. We are very proud of Aceneth and all of the hard work and being an inspiration to future students."
