The City of Houston and Microsoft announced a new partnership that includes the University of Houston College of Technology to support workforce development and digital skills training in the Houston community.

Accelerate is a global initiative led by Microsoft that addresses economic recovery by supporting underserved communities, the general population, and re-skilling the many Americans impacted by COVID-19. Accelerate: Houston will provide Houston residents with tools, training, and innovation workshops to prepare and transition to new areas of the workforce.

College of Technology Dean Anthony Ambler said of the partnership, “As game changers, the College of Technology and Microsoft transcend beyond the classroom with industry-recognized certifications, workshops, and degree programs that support workforce creation and upskilling while reinforcing a culture of innovation. These complementing activities champion the Houston community as adept practitioners and mentors in proven disciplines that apply ingenuity and technology to solve problems, improve lives, and enhance the economy.”

The College of Technology is committed to workforce development in the greater Houston region and strives to achieve this through partnerships with industry. Through their joint efforts, Microsoft, the city of Houston and the UH College of Technology, along with the ION and UpSkill Houston, will work to advance civic innovation and smart city initiatives, economic development and recovery, and digital skilling for workforce and youth.
