John Smith, director of graduate and professional programs in the University of Houston College of Technology has been named president of The Texas Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals (TxGAP). TxGAP is a regional chapter of the National Association for Graduate Enrollment Management (NAGAP). The organization is designed for professionals in all phases of graduate enrollment management, including– admissions, recruitment, and programming.

Smith has been a member of TxGAP and NAGAP for six years.

He earned a doctorate in professional leadership in 2018 from the UH College of Education. A strong advocate for continuing education, he has served as board member and chair of TxGAP’s professional development and strategic initiatives committee, with responsibility for bringing programs and services to the organization’s Summer Institute. His involvement inspired the launch of Hidden GEMS, a state-wide mentorship program for new graduate enrollment management professionals.

“I am honored to assume this role and look forward to sharing the wealth of experience to benefit our colleagues as we confront the enrollment challenges encountered by graduate degree-granting institutions throughout Texas,” said Smith. His appointment will begin June 1, 2020.
