Fall 2019 Graduating Students March Toward Successful Futures

The University of Houston College of Technology celebrated another phenomenal commencement season with nearly 600 graduating students on Saturday, December 14, at the Fertitta Center. The College hosted a celebratory brunch on commencement day, Saturday, December 14. Banner bearers from the College were among the honorees.

Aiman Khan, the College of Technology banner bearer, achieved summa cum laude and a 4.0 grade point average. Khan earned her bachelor’s degree in human resource development. As the honorary overall banner bearer, she led the procession into the commencement ceremony. She also received the College of Technology Dean’s Medal. In addition, the departmental banner bearers included Veronika Glazunova, B. S. Retailing and Consumer Science (Human Development and Consumer Sciences department); Yelyzaveta Mykhailina, B.S., Supply Chain and Logistics Technology (Construction Management department). Ashley Ponder, M.S., Technology Project Management (Construction Management department); Nicole Sorkness, B.S., Organizational Leadership and Supervision (Information and Logistics Technology department); and, Alex Talas B.S., Mechanical Engineering Technology (Engineering Technology department). In addition, Michelle Vercher was recognized as a 4.0 Summa Cum Laude graduate. She earned a B. S. in human resource development. Jeremy Fitzgerald was named the Engineering Technology department’s Luminary Award recipient. Fitzgerald earned his B.S. in computer engineering technology.

College of Technology alumnus ‘96, Ralph Reno greeted the graduates with sage advice about continuing their journeys toward successful careers.

During his opening welcome at the commencement, Dr. Anthony Ambler, dean of the College of Technology, greeted graduates, proud family members and friends, the distinguished platform party, and introduced the commencement speaker, Tammi Warfield, Customer Success General Manager for the Americas and Houston Managing Director at Microsoft.

Among the University of Houston’s recognition of students who graduated with academic honors, were 81 College of Technology students earning the cum laude distinction, 59 earning magna cum laude and 17 distinguished as summa cum laude.
