An innovative partnership launched by the University of Houston College of Technology and Sterling Aviation Early College High School, has been designed for students in the high school’s Houston Community College (HCC) dual credit logistics and global supply chain management course. The classes provide opportunities for high school students to earn college credit and high school credit through concurrent enrollment with HCC while still in high school. University of Houston supply chain and logistics professor, Margaret Kidd said, “This is a pilot program designed to remove barriers in matriculation from high school to the college. Our goal is to enhance and extend consistent communication among the students, teachers, counselors and administrators.”
Throughout the spring 2019 semester, UH College of Technology faculty and supply chain and logistics seniors will provide classroom activities and college and career information designed to increase students’ skills and prepare them for earning a degree. The high school students will benefit from the challenge of thinking more broadly about the industry. While serving as mentors who will support the high school students on their journey toward becoming successful in college, the UH students will be able to apply this experience to their capstone projects.
Dr. Sharon Green, director of undergraduate recruitment for the College of Technology is optimistic about the opportunity to broaden the scope of this program. “We anticipate learning new and better ways to attract high quality high school students to our programs,” said Green.
