Dr. Enrique Barbieri has been named department chair for the University of Houston College of Technology Information and Logistics Technology (ILT) Department. The appointment began August 1, 2018.
Distinguished by a 30-year career as a faculty member, 17 years of experience in various administrative posts and an impressive portfolio of nearly 100 publications, he has been responsible for over $4 million in grants, contracts, and development funding; and has a record of active memberships in the engineering and technology professional associations. Barbieri is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Control Systems Society, 2016-18 chair-elect of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Engineering Technology Council, and was finance chair for the inaugural 2017 IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications.
Barbieri received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio and became a member of the faculty at the Tulane University School of Engineering as an electrical engineering and computer science (EECS) professor for several years before taking leadership of Tulane’s newly organized EECS Department. Dr. Barbieri is not new to the University of Houston. At the inception of the UH College of Technology Department of Engineering Technology in 2002, he served as professor and chair for seven years. He also served as the College of Technology associate dean for research and graduate studies. During this time, he was involved in the administration of two centers - as a member and chair of the executive council of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) and director of the Center for Technology Literacy. In 2012, he joined the University of North Texas College of Engineering as professor and chair of the engineering technology department.
“I am beyond excited to return to the University of Houston College of Technology and join Dean Ambler’s team with the opportunity to lead the information and logistics technology department,” said Dr. Barbieri. “More than 30 dedicated faculty and staff are serving over 1,700 students this fall. Our academic programs in computer information systems, information security, organizational leadership and supervision, and digital media equip individuals with relevant, marketable, and readily transferrable practical skills for a wide variety of careers.”
