Tu Huynh is a senior computer engineering technology student in the College of Technology and serves as a leader in the College of Technology Succeed in Engineering Technology scholars program.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) co-hosted a ‘Build-a-Bot’ competition that attracted more than 40 students, 30 volunteers and several industry professionals and faculty, April 6 at the University of Houston. They also received support from corporate sponsors including Maxim Integrated, Mouser Electronics, and Texas Instruments. The event introduced embedded systems using microcontrollers, circuitry, and programming. It helped us learn how to work as team members of varied backgrounds and majors
Denny Luong, founder of the UH Build-a-Bot competition, wanted to offer students unique opportunities to learn new skills. “I wanted to expose students to a friendly environment with help from their peers and professionals, and give them motivation, even if they had little or no knowledge,” said Luong.
“One our greatest challenges was figuring out how to create and program a working robot in teams comprised of individuals of varying knowledge and skills,” said Tu Huynh. The greatest satisfaction came from showcasing our technical skills and building better relationships with students from other colleges.”
