University of Houston's 'Salute to Retail' Innovators Set for April 25

Event Will Support Scholarships, Endowment for Retailing Programs

A select group of retail innovators will be honored at the 2018 "Salute to Retail" luncheon and awards program.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. on April 25th at River Oaks Country Club.

Proceeds from the biennial “Salute to Retail” benefit student scholarships and the Star Endowment for Retailing and Consumer Science and Global Retailing in the UH College of Technology.

This year’s luncheon is co-chaired by Chris Goins (The Museum of Fine Arts Houston), Tony Bradfield (Tenenbaum Jewelers), and Kevin Black (Tenenbaum Jewelers).

The 2018 honorees include:

  • Joe Williams – Texas Retailers Association (Lifetime Achievement)
  • Betty Newton – à bientôt
  • Christina Mitchell – Abejas Boutique
  • Tina Davis – Cheeky Vintage
  • Regina Garcia – Events
  • Cyndy Garza Roberts – HEB
  • Holly Moore – PaperCity
  • John Sheehan - Target

"Salute to Retail" began in 2004 as a way to honor the field and reflect the UH retailing program’s active advisory board and alumni. The awards honor individuals who have contributed to the field and have allowed the department to create an endowment to cover scholarships and other program needs. “Two graduate students will receive scholarships this year,” says Shirley Ezell, associate professor of retailing and consumer science at UH.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the numerous individuals and companies that purchase tickets and help sponsor this event every other year,” adds Ezell. “Without their generous support and financial commitment, our endowment and scholarships would not be possible.”
