The College of Technology celebrated fall commencement of 558 graduating students on December 15, 2017. Dr. Anthony Ambler the Dean of the College, welcomed the graduates and acknowledged their accomplishment in completing their degrees. “Technology is one of the most difficult degrees to obtain. Our students truly deserve our praise and congratulations,” he said during the convocation ceremony.
The university recognized its students who graduated with academic honors, with ninety-eight students receiving “cum laude,” eighty-four “magna cum laude,” and twenty-eight “summa cum laude.” Technology student Megan Hobbs achieved summa cum laude and a 4.0 grade point average. As the honorary overall banner bearer, she led the procession into the graduation ceremony. Megan, who was a College of Technology Dean’s Medal recipient, earned her bachelor’s degree in retailing and consumer science. In addition, department banner bearers for the college were acknowledged: Michael Rawski - construction management, Juan Alejandro Duenas-Tienda -engineering technology, Debra Bosakewich - human development and consumer sciences, Edwin Rhin Bourgeois - information and logistics technology, and Fabioska Carolina Lima Antuarez - graduate studies. An experienced oil and gas industry mechanical project engineer who originates from Venezuela, Fabioska said that having dedicated instructors, collaborative classmates and supportive family were important to her success. One of her fondest memories is the diversity and having classmates from around the world contribute to a wonderful lifetime experience.
All graduates, family members and friends were recognized at a brunch that was held at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel on December 14. Dean Ambler proudly acknowledged their hard work and sacrifices made while completing their degrees.
Tim Raines a graduate of our organizational leadership and supervision program and working professional at CenterPoint Energy delivered an enthusiastic salute to his colleagues, sharing his experience in a motivating speech. Drue DaSilva, vice president of our Technology Alumni Association and one of our proudest and most involved alums also spoke to the graduates about the value of being active alumni.
