Dr. Marino Ricardo Lent’s research will help improve performance, reliability, and asset efficiency of deep space communication networks.
Dr. Marino Ricardo Lent, assistant professor of computer engineering technology, has been selected by NASA for a space technology research grant. The grants from NASA's Space Technology Research Grants program are worth up to $200,000 per year for three years of research.
His proposal, “Adaptive Data Routing with Cognitive Gateways,” is one of the eight selected efforts for the prestigious Early Career Faculty (ECF) award to pursue the study of early-stage technologies that are of high importance to the space program. Dr. Lent’s research focuses on developing theories and algorithms for cognitive communication networks that harness the parallel computational power of spiking neural models. His vision is to produce a network module that will recognize user requirements, acquired network observations, and given constraints to determine the best way of transferring data autonomously over a mixed set of space communication technologies.
