Carlo Deason, senior academic advisor at the University of Houston College of Technology, won a silver medal in the 10K road race at the Inaugural Americas Masters Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, August 27, 2016. He was also the top American finisher in the 10K road race. The 10K race was located on the campus of the University of British Columbia that consisted of running four times around a 2500 meters course.
"I knew that the race course may be difficult because of the seven hairpin turns that we had to navigate. I was determined to win a medal, so I positioned myself among the front group of runners in the race and it worked out well. When I saw the final results, I realized that not only did I win the silver medal in my age group, I was the top American finisher! The Vancouver Host Committee and BC Athletics placed on a high quality event," states Carlo about his performance.
What is next for Carlo? "I have several road races coming up for the fall and spring running seasons and my next big international event will be the 4th World Outgames in Miami Beach, Florida in May 2017."
