Fred Lewallen, a long-time University of Houston engineering technology professor and associate dean died on Sunday, June 12, 2016. He was 76.
Recently retired, Lewallen served the College of Technology and the University of Houston for nearly 40 years. A loyal friend and colleague to many people on the Main UH campus, he is remembered for his devotion to the success of the College and concern for all individuals - faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Lewallen was born in Pasadena, California and raised in Kiowa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and stayed on as a professor of engineering until he moved his family to Houston in 1976. He joined the University of Houston as a professor of engineering technology where he spent the duration of his career as professor and associate dean.
He is survived by his wife Linda, his children; Anthony and Carmen Lewallen, Daphne and Mark Knochel, Carmen and Doug Endicott, his grandchildren Aviana Knochel and Alexander Knochel, and his sister Regina Gilstrap of St. Louis, Mo., nieces and nephews, along with many friends and colleagues.
The College of Technology is establishing a scholarship fund in his memory - the Fred Lewallen Memorial Scholarship Fund.
