Deniz Gurkan, PhD, associate professor of engineering technology and Nicholas Bastin, research assistant professor of computer engineering technology participated in the 24th Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) Engineering Conference (GEC24), March 8-9, hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Gurkan and Bastin presented a session on innovative teaching of computer networking course and research on GENI at the regional workshop. Bastin, developer and architect, won the GEC24 best demo award for the project, Multi-protocol Network Troubleshooting with Pathtrace, a proposed protocol to trace flow paths between two end hosts of a given network topology. Long Tran, a student who is pursuing his master's degree in technology project management and engineering technology also participated.

Rupa Iyer, PhD, will receive the University of Houston Distinguished Leadership in Teaching Award. It is the highest award given in teaching and the only one given in this category by the university. Dr. Iyer is the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and the founding director of biotechnology programs in the College of Technology. She will be presented the award at the 2016 Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner on April 14.
