The brightest stars of the Houston retail scene were selected for the prestigious Star Awards by the UH College of Technology’s Department of Human Development and Consumer Sciences. These awards recognize the achievement of retailers and leaders in the city of Houston.

The top honor will go to Victor Costa, veteran fashion designer and UH alumnus. Costa will be receiving the Star Legends Award, the first lifetime achievement award offered in the history of the "Salute to Retail" program. Other honorees from the fashion industry will include Julie Phillips Roberts, owner of the Elizabeth Anthony fashion boutique, as well as fashion event producers, Lenny T. Matuszewski, Jr. and Tamara Klosz Bonar.

Brad Marks and Joanna Marks, of IW Marks Jewelers, will take home an award for contributions in jewelry retailing. Welcome W. Wilson, Jr. and Joanne Wilson will receive the community service honor.

Past honorees have included community leaders such as Scott McClelland of HEB, Mickey Rosmarin of Tootsies, and April Hinkle of Texas Monthly magazine.

The Star Awards will be presented at the 2015 "Salute to Retail," which will take place on November 17, 2015, at River Oaks Country Club. The event is co-chaired by Donna Vallone and Penny Loyd.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Star Endowment for Retailing and Consumer Science and Global Retailing at the University of Houston.
