Construction Management Builds Education Partnership with Tilt-Up Concrete Association

The University of Houston Department of Construction Management is collaborating with Tilt-Up Concrete Association in an effort to bring students to the TCA Annual Convention. Joining the University of Houston as Education Partners are Keystone Concrete Placement and Seretta Construction. Keystone Concrete Placement is a full service, turnkey commercial concrete construction company based out of Houston, Texas, and Seretta Construction is a leading commercial concrete subcontractor specializing in tilt-wall construction and specialty slabs. Andrew McPherson, President, Seretta Construction, is Treasurer of the TCA Board of Directors. Keystone Concrete Placement and Seretta Construction will provide complimentary convention registration for as many as 100 students interested in learning more about tilt-up concrete construction. In addition, representatives from both companies will visit with the students to discuss the tilt-up industry during class this September. At the convention, these companies will provide mentors for the students, guiding them through the event and serving as points of contact following the event.

“Having students involved adds so much energy to the event. We are excited to be working with our education partners and sustaining members to provide this opportunity for the students of the University of Houston,” said Mitch Bloomquist, managing director of Tilt-Up Concrete Association.

“Concrete is a fundamental building material for modern civilizations. Tilt-up concrete construction is a technique that made such material so much more versatile,” said Neil N. Eldin, Ph.D., P.E., director of the Construction Management Department in the College of Technology. “It is crucial for our students to be proficient in the use of tilt-up concrete panels. The cost effectiveness and the process efficiency make this technique superior to other building methods. The University of Houston is proud to be partnering with the Tilt-Up Concrete Association.”

“Keystone Concrete Placement is committed to quality, innovation, and excellence.  This is only achieved when solid education is complimented with great field experience,” said Tom Ward, Business Development, Keystone Concrete Placement. “We believe every great project starts with a strong foundation. Construction excellence is achieved through education excellence.”

“The University of Houston is my Alma mater, so I am proud to be involved,” said McPherson. “We need to do everything we can to support and encourage our future workforce. They are at the root of our long-term success.”

TCA Sustaining Members will provide each student attendee with a copy of “The Construction of Tilt-Up.”

About the TCA

TCA was founded in 1986 to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast tilt-up construction, a construction method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment.  For more information about the TCA, visit www.tilt-up.org.
