The University of Houston's College of Technology and Statoil invite you to volunteer as a coach or mentor for the First Lego League (FLL).
"FLL is a youth robotics program that inspires young people's interest and participation in science and technology by introducing students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks," explained Karen Cohen, Program Director, Coordination of Robotics Education (CORE), UH. "Currently, we are seeking coaches and mentors for this year's upcoming competition."
Coaches provide guidance, structure, encouragement and a fun experience through ongoing leadership at team meetings and at events. Mentors are role models who provide valuable insights and fresh prospective to the team through their expertise. Mentors also encourage the team to find their own solutions and help regulate team dynamics, such as ages, team size and gender to ensure all team members participate.
"By volunteering your time now, you'll help build our heroes for tomorrow by guiding future generations in the discovery of exciting career possibilities and by teaching them to make positive contributions to society," Cohen added.
CORE is an education and outreach program of the University of Houston, College of Technology. CORE was founded to provide youth robotics programs that will motivate students to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields throughout their education, and to pursue STEM related careers.
CORE accomplishes its mission by providing workshops, competitions, camps and special events and support to youth, educators, schools, and community groups.
