Texas Medical Center Advisory Council Salutes Cougars for Kids Volunteer

Recent Engineering Technology graduate Misael Gonzalez was honored for outstanding volunteer service during the annual volunteer of the year luncheon hosted by the Texas Medical Center Volunteer Service Advisory Council on May 31. Dr. Jerry Evans, Information and Logistics Department Chair in the College of Technology, serves as chair of the advisory council.

Misael played games and read to young cancer patients at the University of Texas MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital for four years, serving for more than 450 volunteer hours.

"My hope is that this has been a positive life changing experience for the kids as it has been for me," said Misael.

Featured speaker, James "Red" Duke, M.D., trauma surgeon and professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center said, "The amazing beauty of being human is the capacity to care and give. It is immeasurable."

The College of Technology is the official University of Houston sponsor for Cougars for Kids.
