Fourth Annual GrillFest Showcases Students' Research and Capstone Projects

The College of Technology Student Body Council – a diverse team of representatives from the various student-run organizations— planned and produced the Fourth Annual GrillFest event that creatively mixed entertainment with learning and networking.

"Each organization tends to use their money separately on single small events, but we decided to group all of our money together for one single purpose," said Christopher Lazok, President of the Supply-Chain Industry and Distribution Organization (SIDO).

An impressively strong, effective voice, 11 student organizations produced the event on the College of Technology's East Courtyard. Undaunted by the stormy skies, an estimated 2,000 attendees enjoyed the food and festivities, where several students highlighted their capstone projects and their current research work.

"The event was a great success and second huge social accomplishment for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as a leading College of Technology student organization," said Ruben Gomez, Chair of the IEEE student organization."

Sponsors and supporters of the GrillFest included the Activities Funding Board University of Houston, Catering on Cullen - University of Houston, College of Technology Coordination of Robotics Education (CORE), Technology Alumni Association, No Label Brewing Co., Coca-Cola, Knights of Columbus, Cougar CS, Reynolds & Reynolds, Game Over Videogames, Student Government Association, and the Supply-Chain Industry and Distribution Organization.

"Thanks to our sponsors, supporters, and advisors, we learned that 'wherever there is a will there is a way.' The University and the College of Technology went beyond expectations to help us with resources, contacts, and guidance," Gomez said.
