Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) provide an alternative solution for technicians and engineers in implementing digital logic. A workshop on the topic will be held on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., in the Computer Engineering Technology Lab at the UH College of Technology. The purpose of the workshop is to focus is on digital logic design and teaching techniques for electronics, electrical technology, and computer information instructors in a learning lab environment. Supported by funding from NSF and resources from the Configurable Space Microsystems Innovations & Applications Center (COSMIAC), students will receive a stipend of $100 per day, reimbursement for meals and lodging, and a free Digilent NEXYS II FPGA Board. During the two day workshop the topics will include: general FPGA architectures and design flow, and how to interface between Xilinx software and the Nexys2 FPGA Board System. Upon completion of the training, attendees will take away a complete curriculum in the integration of FPGAs with microprocessors, including design, simulation, testing, and troubleshooting.
