UH ranked second highest among the best universities
November 1, 2011 - University of Houston members of the Association of IT Professionals (AITP) Student Chapter earned multiple awards during the 2011 AITP Region 3 Student Conference at Sam Houston State University, October 20th. Hosted annually, the 2011 regional conference was attended by 200 students representing 22 different universities from six states.
Seven College of Technology students placed in the various competitions:
- William Zolandz and Chris Francis - 2nd Place, Systems Analysis and Design
- Evan Cabell and Haseeb Ddabhoy - 2nd Place, Network Design
- William Zolandz - 2nd Place, PC Troubleshooting
- J.C. Beaber and Jayson Adanse - 3rd Place, Microsoft® Office Solutions
In addition to contending in various academic competitions, the group of 21 UH students made the most of this opportunity by testing for multiple Microsoft certifications.
The UH AITP Student Chapter also earned a Student Chapter Outstanding Performance Award (SCOPA), a nationally recognized award presented to only eight of the 200 universities supported by AITP. Additionally, for the second year in a row UH was recognized as the second best overall university at the conference.
"I am extremely proud of how well our students performed in the competitions and represented the College and UH. This is a testament to the value of the education provided by the Computer Information Systems faculty. I also want to thank the College of Technology and Chevron for their support of UH’s AITP Student Chapter," said Bret Detillier, CIS Program Coordinator / Instructional Assistant Professor, and faculty advisor for the UH AITP Student Chapter. Detillier was awarded the 2011 AITP Region 3 Star Performer of the Year Award for his work with AITP.
The UH AITP Student Chapter will move ahead to represent Region 3 in the national overall student chapter competition in spring 2012.
