Evans begins his term as Chairman on August 1 for a two-year appointment.
"The Council was keenly aware of Dr. Evans' leadership abilities," said council member Edgar Homrighausen, Director of Security and Director of Volunteers for Shriners Hospitals for Children- Houston. "These abilities were demonstrated by the success of the University of Houston's Cougars for Kids Volunteer Program, of which he was a founder".
The volunteer directors of the 48 Texas Medical Center institutions (which includes UH) encourage and promote volunteerism in the Texas Medical Center, provide an educational forum for volunteers and directors, and plan the annual "Texas Medical Center Salute to Volunteers" event. Other activities include special programs or workshops on various topics of interest to the volunteers.
