Fall 2011 Academic Deadlines and Events

The College of Technology wishes to welcome all new and returning Cougars to the Spring 2011 Semester! We are committed to assisting you achieve academic success. Here are some general things and helpful hints you should know for the upcoming semester.

Academic Advising

Academic advising is very important and necessary to stay on track for graduation. We recommend you see an advisor at least once a semester. Seniors should see an advisor the semester before they plan on graduating to ensure all requirements are being met for graduation.

The Academic Services Center is located in 108 T1 (Technology Annex). If you need to make an appointment to see an advisor, please call our front desk at 713.743.4100. We recommend that you call several weeks before you need to see an advisor because appointments are booked well in advance. We do not make same day appointments. In addition, please call the day before your appointment to confirm your appointment. We have half-hour appointments for advising needs such as graduation checks, degree plans, and course selection. For quick five-minute questions, including VA certifications and declaring a minor, we also have walk-in hours.

The office is open for advising from 8:30 – 11:30 am and 1:30 - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Evening hours are on Wednesdays from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Please call or visit us in 108 T1 for specific appointment and walk-in times.

Adding/Dropping Classes

Students can add classes using the self service function in PeopleSoft (myUH) until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, January 25. If you have concerns about attempting to add a course that is closed, you must see the department that houses the course by Tuesday, January 25 by 5 PM.

Please remember that any late registration requires immediate (same day) payment or the scheduling of a payment plan, otherwise your enrollment will be cancelled. If you are dropped from classes due to non-payment, you may not be able to get back into the same courses.

In order for a class not to count towards the enrollment cap for Texas residents, a course must be dropped by Wednesday, February 2. This day is known as the Official Reporting Day (ORD). This is also the last day to drop a course or withdraw without receiving a grade. For more information on the enrollment cap please visit here. The last day to drop a course with a "W" is Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Please remember the policy on dropping courses; the policy establishes a limit of six "W" grades for undergraduate students.

Please note that adding and dropping courses will affect your balances owed to the University. Please check your account daily and make sure payment is taken care of. The payment and refund schedule can be found here.

There are deadlines for everything you do here at UH. Please pay close attention to them. Please pay your student bill on time and please add/drop your classes on time. The academic calendar, which outlines important dates and deadlines, can be found on the University of Houston website.
