HOUSTON, October 2, 2008 - Effective immediately, Ms. Elizabeth Wetzel has assumed the position of Managing Director at the Center for Logistics and Transportation Policy at the College of Technology, University of Houston. Ms. Wetzel will be building upon the successes achieved by Founding Director, Joy Lloyd, who is ill.
Elizabeth Wetzel brings a wealth of knowledge to the Center. She has 28 years of experience in logistics supply chains, procurement processes and international transportation, including experience in senior consulting positions in global consulting firms. She has worked with all dimensions of transportation — carriers, trucks, rails and shippers and provided financial, management, marketing and information technology expertise for a leading international ocean transportation organization. As well, she has managed operations and logistics for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in airport security.
Most recently, as adjunct professor of Logistics, Liner Shipping and Maritime Business courses at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Ms. Wetzel brought her industry experience and network to provide experienced-based learning to the Logistics and Marine Transportation majors at that institution. During the five years she was employed by the academy, Ms. Wetzel received the Service Award for Distinguished Teaching twice (every year eligible), and was nominated for the 2005 U.S. Professors of the Year Award, sponsored by Carnegie Foundation and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Ms. Wetzel earned an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Tulane University and a BA in English from Newcomb College of Tulane University.

The Center for Logistics and Transportation Policy (CLTP), housed in the College of Technology, was officially created by the University of Houston in the fall of 2007. The purpose of the center is to address the challenges of applied research, policy issues and workforce training for current and future employees in the field of logistics and transportation.
