Ms. Lisa Chmiola Burns was appointed Director of Development for the College of Technology in August 2008. In addition to being a University of Houston alumna (BA, Journalism), she also has a Technology connection with a minor in Consumer Science and Merchandising in our Human Development and Consumer Science Department.
As development officer, Lisa works with college administration, faculty and students, as well as alumni, friends of the college, and organizations to impact the mission of the college. Donor gifts help the College provide students with the best education experience possible by funding scholarships, labs and equipment, and providing faculty support.
Lisa began her professional career as a journalist. A love of event planning led her to an interest in public relations and graduate studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (MS, Public Relations) while working in the tourism industry. She is well experienced in the fund raising arena. Lisa was employed by the American Heart Association for six years, and was the organization’s 2002 Rookie of the Year for the Southeast Affiliate. Most recently, Lisa was responsible for organizing the national Paul “Bear” Bryant College Football Coaching Awards. She served as president of the American Advertising Federation’s Lake Charles chapter and as president of UH’s School of Communication Alumni Association. Lisa is an active member of the Junior League of Houston. She is married to fellow UH alumnus Adam Burns. They have a gorgeous Chocolate Lab named Buddy.
