Beginning this fall semester, Dr. Martin Herrera Ramirez joined the College of Technology Department of Engineering Technology, a sabbatical visit that will extend through July 2016. Dr. Herrera is from Research Center in Advanced Materials (CIMAV) in Chihuahua, Mexico, where he is a full-time researcher. Dr. Herrera earned a PhD in Science and Materials Engineering at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris and Master’s degree in Materials Science at National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City.

Dr. Francisco Robles, Associate Professor in the College of Technology, arranged the visit, which is financed by CIMAV and the Mexican government. The objectives of the sabbatical exchange are to enrich research collaborations between institutions, and publish several journal papers and two books. Earlier this year, two of Dr. Herrera's students visited UH. He hopes to involve more graduate students in the future.

In addition to his desire to deepen the understanding of materials science and technology, Dr. Herrera said that he expects to expand on the opportunities for more collaboration between research groups at CIMAV and the University of Houston, with a special focus on the exchange of graduate students between both institutions.
