Kovach Wins Best Paper Award at International Quality Engineering Conference

Dr. Jamison V. Kovach, Associate Professor, Organizational Leadership and Supervision

Dr. Jamison V. Kovach earned the Best Paper Award at the 1st International Conference on Quality Engineering and Management, which took place at the University of Minho in Guimarães Portugal, September 14-16. Co-authored by project management graduate student Erin M. Mitchell, the paper "Improving Supply Chain Information Sharing Using Design for Six Sigma," examined ways to improve information sharing within supply chain operations for one marine transportation services organization.

Created this year, the Best Paper Award in Quality Engineering and Management is sponsored by the European Academy of Management and Business Economics (AEDEM) and the European Research on Management and Business Economics Journal (IEDEE).

Jamison V. Kovach is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Logistics Technology at the University of Houston. She received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University. Her industrial experience includes several years as a process improvement engineer in the U.S. textile industry. Dr. Kovach is certified in Six Sigma Black Belt training and directs the UH College of Technology Lean Six Sigma professional training program. Her research interests include investigating methods for improving organizational performance, particularly in projects and non-routine processes. Dr. Kovach received the 2010 ASQ Feigenbaum Medal and was inducted into the International Academy for Quality in 2011. Her research in quality engineering and process improvement/redesign has been published in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals and books.
