University of Houston members of the Association of IT Professionals (AITP) Student Chapter earned multiple awards and certifications at the 2013 AITP Region 3 Student Conference.
University of Houston members of the Association of IT Professionals (AITP) Student Chapter earned multiple awards at the 2013 AITP Region 3 Student Conference held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 31st to November 2nd.
More than 250 students representing 19 different universities from seven states attended the annually held regional conference.
College of Technology students placed in these various competitions:
- Dennis Maldonado – 1st Place, PC Troubleshooting
- Kevang Desai and Darshak Zala - 2nd Place, Systems Analysis & Design
- Alan Hensley and Dennis Maldonado – 2nd Place, Hacking
- Nithin Kumar – Honorable Mention, Systems Analysis & Design
The University of Houston also received the fourth highest Overall University Award. The award is based on the overall contest results of the universities in attendance. This is the fifth year in a row that UH has been recognized as one of the top overall universities competing at the annual student conference.
In addition to competing in nine various academic competitions, 30 UH students also earned Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certifications for data base, security, Microsoft ® Windows Operating System, and networking fundamentals.
"I am extremely proud of how well our students performed in the competitions and the professionalism they demonstrated during this conference. I am especially impressed by how well they performed in earning an extremely high number of MTA certifications. They truly represented the College and UH in an exemplary fashion, said Bret Detillier, Computer Information Systems Program Coordinator, Instructional Assistant Professor, and faculty advisor for the UH AITP Student Chapter.
"AITP and the CIS Faculty would like to express our deep thanks to Chevron and ERGOS Technology for their continued support of UH's Student Chapter of AITP. Their continued financial support enabled AITP to pay for all of the student registration fees and hotel accommodations for the 38 students who attended this year's student conference. A special round of thanks goes to Dr. Art Conklin and Professor Ed Crowley who both conducted additional workshops to prepare this year’s group,” he added.
