In our community exists a growing need for technologists, scientists, and engineers to support current and future industries. Employee volunteers in companies like Statoil enjoy the benefits of encouraging children to participate in robotics programs that incorporate science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The goal of youth robotics is to encourage continued study of these subjects and guide their selection of careers.
Statoil has a strong tradition of community involvement around the world and in our own backyard here in Houston. The Statoil Heroes of Tomorrow program provides an opportunity for employees to strengthen and enrich the lives of children ages 9-14 through participation in the FIRST LEGO League youth robotics competitions held locally. Volunteers serve as judges for student research projects, referees for the robot "obstacle course" game, and in helping make sure the events run smoothly.
